Architecture building, 1967The University of Strathclyde boasts one of the oldest architectural training schools in the United Kingdom. A Department of Architecture and Building was established at Strathclyde’s antecedent institution, the Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College, in 1895. Nine years later, this Department joined forces with the Department of Architecture at Glasgow School of Art to form the Glasgow School of Architecture, which was administered by a joint committee and was among the first training schools to be officially recognised by the Royal Institute of British Architects.
