Types of Statistical Reporting

There are two types of statistical reports for instructors: List Analysis and Reports. Both types are described below.

The statistical icons also provide live information e.g. Students views (eye icon), Student Comments (text bubble icon), Student like (heart icon). See the Student Interaction page for details.

 

List Analysis

When this feature is enabled, the View lists analysis icon list_analysis.png appears at the top of the My Lists page as well as the top of every reading list.

  • If the icon is clicked from the My Lists page, the Reading List Analytics information will appear per list in place of the list descriptions.

  • If the icon is clicked from within a reading list, the Reading List Analytics information will appear per citation in place of the citation descriptions.

  • To return to the standard view of My Lists or the List View, select the icon again or select the X at the right of the bottom status bar that appears while analysis is visible.

List analysis will display statistical information for the whole list.

Select Weekly Active Students to see a student usage graph over a period of time.

Citation analysis will display statistical information per citation.

The color of the left border indicates student involvement: orange for 0-20%, colorless for 21-50%, or green for 51-100%.

Display List Analysis headings:
  • Class Participants - The number of students that are enrolled in the class. Class size data updated each day from Pegasus info.

  • Active Students - The number of students who engaged with the list in any way.

  • Total Events - The total number of actions that students performed on this list (Selects, comments, likes, marked as read).

  • Average Events Per Student - An average number of activities on the list per student.

  • Number of Comments - The total number of comments on this list.

 

Citation List Analysis headings:
  • Active Students  - The number of students who engaged with the citation in any way.

  • Total Activities - The total number of actions that students performed on this item (Selects, comments, likes, marked as read).

  • Student Usage - Usage level, based on the number of students who actively engaged with this citation out of n participants in the class.

  • Students Full Text Views - The number of students who clicked on the link to an e-resource (either from the brief view or the full view of the citation). Multiple accesses by the same student count multiple times.

  • Students File Downloads - The number of students who downloaded the resource (multiple downloads by the same student count multiple times).

  • Students that Commented - The number of students who commented on the resource discussion.

  • Students Likes - The number of students who liked this item.

  • Students marked item as read - The number of students who marked this item as read.

Please note there is no exporting tool for List Analysis statistics

Viewing Reading List Reports

Reading list Reports contain analytical information about the instructor's reading lists. Information is included for reading lists for which the instructor is an owner/collaborator

The information is divided into three sub-tabs:

Usage – Student usage information about active, published reading lists.

Analysis – Graphical citation usage information about active, published reading lists.

Inactive – Citation usage information about inactive (either past or future), published reading lists. Contains the same information fields as the previous tab.

 

Report view

 

General information for each reading list:

 

  • Course/Class  Code

  • Course/Class Name

  • List Name

  • Start and End Date

  • Total citations – The total number of citations

  • Participants – The total number of students

Total usage for each reading list:

  • Active Students – The number of students that interacted with the citation in some method: clicked, liked, commented, viewed the material)

  • Activity Score – The average number of citations interacted with by each student

  • Total Full Text Access – The number of times the full text of any citation was accessed (multiple accesses by the same student count multiple times)

  • Total Comments – The total number of comments on all citations

  • Total Likes – The total number of likes on all citations

  • Total Read It – The total number of citations marked "read it" by each student, added together

  • Weekly usage for each reading list. The No Usage columns are reserved for future use.

 

You can select a reading list and then one of the following options from the menu that appears. The fields are the same as on the parent tab.

  • View Reading List Sections – View usage for this reading list by section.
  • View Reading List Citations – View usage for this reading list by citation

  • View Reading List Citation Types – View usage information by each citation type:

    • Manually Added

    • an External URL

    • Digital

    • Electronic

    • Physical

 

Downloading Statistical Reports

Reports can be exported to an Excel spreadsheet via the Page Options menu.

Student Usage Reports allow you to gauge the effectiveness of  your reading lists.  Reports give you a complete analysis of student activities, such as viewing the full text of citations, liking, commenting, and marking as read. Reports are presented as an overview, or a weekly breakdown . You can view a report for a whole list, or drill down to view the a report on the levels of sections, citations, and citations types. Reports can be exported to an Excel spreadsheet.
