How to access the Lexis Library database service and use it to find: case law, legislation, journal articles and more. This also includes information about how to access international materials on Lexis Library.

 

Lexis+ UK Legal Research

Lexis+ UK Legal Research will replace Lexis Library in the autumn of 2022. Content and functionality will remain similar.

Log into Lexis

EU materials on Lexis+ UK Legal Research

Legislation

Content includes consolidated primary and secondary legislation.

You can access EU legislation via the 'Legislation' search. From the home page:

  • select 'Legislation' (under 'Content'), then
  • select 'EU Legislation' (under 'Content Type').

You can then search or browse EU legislation.


Cases

Lexis+ UK contains EU/EC case law from 1954 onwards.

You can access EU case law from the 'Cases' search. From the home page:

  • select 'Cases' (under 'Content'), then
  • under 'Topics' select 'European Union Law' 

You can then search EU cases.

Searching for EU legislation on Lexis+ UK Legal Resaerch

You can access EU legislation via the 'Legislation' search. From the home page:

  • select 'Legislation' (under 'Content'), then
  • select 'EU Legislation' (under 'Content Type').

Select 'Advanced Search' search screen provides various search boxes where you can enter terms:

  • 'Title'

e.g. Directive 95/46/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 24 October 1995 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data (or 95/46/EC)

  • 'Terms'

e.g. infringing fundamental freedoms or privacy; for purposes of journalism or for purposes of literary of artistic expression

Searching for EU case law on Lexis Library

You can access EU case law from the 'Cases' search. From the home page:

  • select 'Cases' (under 'Content'), then
  • under 'Topics' select 'European Union Law' 

This search provides various boxes where you can enter your search terms, including:

  • 'Case name'     e.g. Commission of the European Communities v Kingdom of Spain or C-157/03
  • 'Terms'  e.g. cassis de dijon or minimum alcohol content
