Integrated Workflow for Publications and Datasets: First Online Release

This guide outlines the different stages involved in the Integrated Workflow for research publications and datasets.

First Online Release

You have now reached the final stage of the publication timeline and your research output has been published online. It is common practice for publishers to publish articles online in advance of inclusion in an issue (sometimes referred to as 'early view' or 'online first'). Key steps at this final stage include updating the Pure record with the date of first publication and checking the dataset record for completeness. Where the gold Open Access route has been selected, publishers may sometimes wait for payment of the Article Processing Charge (APC) before releasing the article.

Open Access Publishing (OA)

At this stage
  • Update the Pure record with the date of first publication and the DOI (if available)

  • If you selected the Gold Open Access route, you can now upload the final published version of your research output (often referred to as the 'version of record') to the Pure record

  • Once you have updated the Pure record with the further publication details, submit the record for 're-validation'. The Open Access team check the updated information and then validate the record

Research Data Management (RDM)

At this stage
  • The Pure dataset record will be complete and all relevant final data uploaded to the record
  • The completed Pure dataset record will have been validated and the active DOI minted
  • A Knowledgebase record of the deposit will be publicly available. Access/visibility of the data will depend on the settings applied in the Pure record
  • The record and data will receive data stewardship for a minimum of ten years from the last date the data was externally accessed

Digital Preservation & Curation

  • Once a deposit is complete and the record has been validated the data will be processed using the open-source preservation software Archivematica
  • A preservation copy of the data will be held external to Pure on the university secure storage i-drive
