The Library Catalogue (SUPrimo) provides access to over one million eJournals, eBooks and electronic databases, on more than 300 different websites. SUPrimo also contains billions of articles and chapter records, received from thousands of different publishers, content providers, and repositories. And of course, this number is growing all the time. Before any eResource goes live it gets thoroughly tested, but sometimes – instead of being taken to that really interesting sounding article you just clicked on – you end up somewhere else entirely.
Our staff will always try to help you locate the content you need, but if you run into a problem outside of working hours and you want access right now, there are a few things you can try which might help get you to the content that you need.
Is there a known problem with this eResource?
Check our eResources status page to see if a problem has been reported to us. If so, we’ll put the details here. If we’ve got a workaround, information on that will be here too.
Is there a problem with your browser?
Sometimes your browser holds onto outdated data that can block access. You may find it helpful to try a different browser. You can also use a private/incognito browser window or clear your browser cache.
Are Strathclyde users entitled to access the material?
The Library spends millions of pounds on content each year. But (as much as we might want to) we cannot buy everything. Look on SUPrimo to make sure that we have access to the eBook or eJournal that you want. If you are trying to access something from an eJournal, check that it is within the date ranges available. This is shown on the journal record.
Are you correctly authenticated as a Strathclyde user?
If you are sure that you should be able to access, but you are seeing that content is “locked” or “unavailable” or is prompting you to pay, make sure that the site has signed you in correctly. Look for something that says “University of Strathclyde” or displays our logo. This isn’t available on every site, but it can be a helpful clue.
Can you find a different way to access?
We always suggest that you start from either the Library Catalogue or Databases A to Z but if that hasn’t worked, there may be another route available. If you already found the eBook or eJournal record on SUPrimo, you can use that and then go to your required section. As a last resort, if you know the site where the content can be found, you could try to sign in there. Look for something that says “Sign in via your Institution” or similar and sign in using your Strathclyde credentials. Then you can hopefully search or browse until you have found what you need.
