Writing references is part of student life. Understanding what is required in citations, footnotes and reference lists can be a new, or possibly confusing, skill. To help clarify the referencing process, the library has recently subscribed to a new electronic resource – Cite Them Right.

Based on the popular Cite Them Right book, you can use the online resource to learn how to create citations and write references with confidence.

Cite Them Right contains tutorials and videos which explain the basics of why referencing is an important aspect of academic study. Alongside these resources, hundreds of examples of references and citations are provided. Nine referencing styles are covered including APA 7, Harvard, IEEE, MHRA, OSCOLA, Chicago and Vancouver.

Within each referencing style, you can see examples of citations and references to a wide range of materials including books, electronic books, journal articles, online materials including social media, artistic sources and reports.

As well as learning how references should be set out in different styles, Cite Them Right offers you the chance to use data from your own reading to create references yourself. This data can then be formatted according to the relevant style and you can copy or email the reference for use in assignments.

Try Cite Them Right today! Available throughout the academic year 2024/25.
