Our Andersonian Library Guides help you develop your research and information skills by providing access to key Library resources and services.

These Guides, known as ‘LibGuides’, have been supporting students since 2014 and now include over 100 topics.

Redesign and improvements

In 2024, the Library team collaborated with students and academic staff to improve usability, accessibility and navigation.

The main improvements included:

  • Consistent design: The design and appearance now reflect that of other University webpages. Users can easily see they are using University resources.
  • Structure: Guides are now grouped by type with options to view by subject or a list of all guides. Information on Databases is now clearer with better search and filter options.
  • Navigation: Each guide now uses a menu on the left to assist with easy navigation. Similar guides share a standardised layout.
  • Accessibility: We fixed a lot of problems that made the website less accessible than we wanted it to be. Some accessibility issues remain, and we are working with the provider of LibGuides to address them.

What you can find

LibGuides include:

  • Databases Resources: use the ‘Databases A to Z’ list, filtered by subject or type
  • Academic Subjects: guides for subjects taught and researched at the University
  • Finding and using information: learn about literature searching, referencing, EndNote, and more
  • Library collections and services: discover library resources, study support, and themed reading lists. Including community resources (Black, LGBTQA+), children’s books by topic, library services (eBooks, alumni access, teaching collections), and study skills support (library videos, Skills Boost sessions)
  • Research and teaching support: archives and special collections, research support (data management, systematic reviews, copyright), teaching resources (reading lists, images, audiovisual materials), and dissertation/project guidance
